A Unified Body
I am so grateful for the Word of God. It is alive! It is powerful! And when we pray it, it comes to pass. His Word will never return void. Praying the Word is vital. You are speaking the very words of God that have been written as a guide for us and for us to know His perfect will.
I want to focus on Ephesians 4. It says in verses 2-6, "2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all."
I honestly could have taken this space to write about each and every chapter and verse from Ephesians. It's such a rich letter, filled with some awesome truth. So why did I select this passage on unity? BECAUSE UNITY IN THE BODY IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE!
Without unity, the blessing and anointing can go missing. Check out Psalm 133. It's a beautiful picture of God's intention when it comes to unity.
So, what are we "one" in?
Body- the fellowship of believers, the church
Spirit- the Holy Spirit, who activates our fellowship and keeps us personally in step with the Word
Hope- the glorious future to which we are all called
Lord- Christ, to whom we belong
Faith- our singular commitment to Christ
Baptism- the sign of entry into the church
God- who is our Father who keeps us for eternity
The next time that brother or sister in Christ irritates you, rubs you the wrong way, causes offense, or has minor differences in doctrine, you can go back to this passage of Ephesians and remember all that you are ONE in with that person! Pray for them. Reconcile quickly. Protect unity and pursue peace at all costs. Pray the Word and then watch it come to life in your life!
