Anointed

Declarations are a powerful thing. We know that the power of life and death are in the tongue. Do we live as though we can actually speak life and also with an awareness that our words can cause death?

I have a declaration for you to speak out today (and every day for that matter!)

Declare: The anointing I carry is a yoke breaker!

In Isaiah 10:27 it says, "And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing."

Isaiah 10:27 defines the anointing as the burden-removing, yoke-destroying power of God. The anointing is what delivers God’s people and sets the captives free. The anointing is literally God on flesh. The anointing is able to do what flesh can’t do. I like to think of it as God’s super added to our natural. Supernatural, people ;-)

You see even Jesus, God’s son…literally God made flesh…needed this anointing.

It is impossible to talk about Jesus being anointed without discussing what he was anointed with. The word “anoint” simply means to rub into or to smear upon. Jesus was smeared with the anointing, specifically the person, presence, and power of the Holy Spirit.

After Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit descended on him like a dove. We know he received this anointing. And then after Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days to fast and pray, he came out IN the power of the Spirit.

We then see Jesus get up at the beginning of his earthly ministry in Luke 4 and explain a few things related to being anointed. Read it here.

“He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor’” (Luke 4:16-19 NIV).

Jesus boldly declared that he was the Messiah, the anointed one.

We can see in Luke 4 that the purpose of the anointing is two-fold.

1. To preach! so that faith might come to those who hear and also for revelation of the Word as it is preached

2. To see a manifestation of what has been preached!

Faith comes by hearing the Word, and faith is what allows us to see the manifestation of the Word. The anointing is key to both our faith and the results of our faith.

Acts 10:38 describes the impact of the anointing on the life and ministry of Jesus:

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went around doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”

The good news for us today? The same anointing works IN us and THROUGH us! We get to be smeared with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. How do you fellowship with Holy Spirit? Start with prayer. And don’t forget…

Declare: The anointing I carry is a yoke breaker!
